At a lunch with delegates from the Embassy of Japan and from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science earlier in the year, Professor Geoffrey Targett, Chair of the ALN Selection Committee, was delighted to announce the scholarship awards for the academic year 2011-2012. Eight hundred and fifty-eight applications from a total of 31 African countries were received (approximately double the number received in the previous year). After an extensive selection procedure, the following applicants were successful:
