Having grown up and worked in Kenya I appreciate the impact that infectious disease has on our country and the African continent at large. I believe a comprehensive understanding of infectious diseases biology and a holistic interventional approach is required if disease burden in sub-Saharan Africa is to be surmounted. I choose to study for a Masters in Infectious Disease at LSHTM because it is designed to provide a broad spectrum of key disciplines in design of multidisciplinary interventions.
My career goal is to mentor young scientists and to work with government organs to influence design, and implementation of health policies. This training will enhance my chances of acceptance into local universities for teaching positions and PhD training. I’ll utilise these opportunities to promote appreciation of infectious diseases through mediating collaborations with research institutions. This training as well as my solid laboratory background will augment my productivity substantially.
It has been my long-term desire to enrol for an MSc in Infectious Disease at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the ALN scholarship award has made my dream come true.
